Eric Steimle, PhD

Biography continued…

Eric has helped develop underwater nutrient sensors, underwater camera arrays, and underwater explosive detectors. His work with optical pattern recognition helped the development of a biological imaging and identification platform. He has worked with Buoys, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, Remotely Operated Vehicles and other ground and air based robots. Dr. Steimle developed a series of unmanned surface vehicles for environmental mapping. These have been modified for search and recovery operations after natural disasters, domestically and abroad. He was an original member of the Center for Robotic Search and Rescue’s Roboticists without Borders program. He was the Chair of the Tampa Bay American Chemical Society, and the Chair of the Chemistry and Environmental Section of the Florida Academy of Science. Dr. Steimle also co-founded Spark5 Inc., a Pinellas County based charity that raises funds and awareness for children in need.
